The Peacemakers

The Peacemakers

A family divided. A nation torn apart by war. Can faith survive when the world catches fire?

1960s   For the Morgan family, the battle lines aren’t just drawn in the dense jungles of Southeast Asia; they are cutting right through the dinner table, thrusting the Morgan children into different realities.

TRAVIS is sent halfway around the world to fight a dirty, unyielding war he barely understands. His innocence is violently stripped away when he is thrown into the terrifying realities of jungle ambushes and forced to face the ultimate test of survival.

At home, PAIGE refuses to watch her brother—and her generation—be sacrificed to the status quo. Driven by passion and a burning desire for justice, she breaks away from her conservative family, plunging headfirst into the chaotic heart of the campus protest movement. But in a world spinning out of control, she quickly learns that revolution carries a devastating, heartbreaking price.

Masterfully woven with rich historical detail and raw emotional depth, The Peacemakers is a gripping, panoramic saga of love, loyalty, and the enduring power of faith. It is an unforgettable journey through a nation’s darkest hour, exploring the ultimate cost of peace—and what it truly means to find it.

What Readers Are Saying About The Peacemakers

From Library Journal

The Peacemakers shows the Morgan family facing unexpected challenges in the 1960s. A turbulant time in U.S. history, the era proves difficult for the Morgans as well. Perplexed by a generation totally different from their own, Nat and Allegra Morgan can only watch and pray that their children survive their troubled youths. Their daughter, Paige, rebels against her parents by refusing to attend church, and her rebellion becomes more pronounced as she gets more involved in campus life. Meanwhile, her brother, Travis, is sent overseas to fight in Vietnam. Cavanaugh delivers an intriguing portrait of a devoted family’s reaction to an era. I had reservations about reading The Peacemakers; it wasn’t my typical genre and I wondered if the story would keep my interest. Man, was I wrong about that! I fell in love with this book from the first chapter and now I want to go back and read the whole series! The descriptions brought everything to life. This was my first time to read one of Jack Cavanaugh’s books and I honestly say, I’m hooked! A very captivating novel!

Well written, intense story. A must read.

Jack Cavanaugh gives an exciting glimpse into one of the most turbulent times in our country’s recent history. He weaves the stories of a brother and sister deeply involved in the politics of the day, with the Vietnam War and the protester riots, and does so with such depth of emotion and engaging style that a subject I would ordinarily have found depressing took on new meaning.

Absolutely magnetic reading! Putting it down was like pulling a Band-Aid off — painful!

This is a great book! I read all of the American Family Portrait series and I might say this was my favorite. History just sort of jumped out of the book and became real! Cavanaugh painted so many great pictures with his words – I could imagine I was right there.

Loved the journey, and as with all the greats, I was a little sad when I turned the last page.
